Every industry has moments that define its future. Moments that, years later, people look back on and say, \u201cThat\u2019s where it started.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between the 4th and 7th of December 2025, one such moment unfolded in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GDC Tech Mega Event brought together thousands of Delegates, Engineers, Foundry Owners, Researchers, and Equipment suppliers from across India and the world, all united by one industry \u2014 Aluminium and Magnesium Die Castings.

While it’s possible to Highlight the key happenings for the 3 Days, It’s impossible to replicate that same energy here, and that will be a memory only the attendee’s with cherish.

Well, I’ll at the very least give it a try.

1. THE MAGNESIUM DIE-CASTING CONFERENCE : HISTORY IN THE MAKING<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

For only the second time in India\u2019s history, a dedicated Magnesium Conference was held and this one much like the first, shattered expectations yet again. Delegates flew in from across Europe, Asia, and beyond, all eager to explore a question that has been lingering for decades:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can India become a serious player in the global magnesium industry?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This conference may well be remembered as the moment India\u2019s magnesium journey truly began. But before that, here are some Reasons why it isn’t already! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Challenge 1 – Raw Material Scarcity<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Today, magnesium production in India faces a fundamental hurdle, Almost all primary magnesium metal is imported, largely from China. This dependency has slowed growth and made cost competitiveness a challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the conference, discussions highlighted new technologies extracting magnesium from seawater in India, a breakthrough that could radically change the future of this industry, if supported by policy and investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Challenge 2 – Technology & Ecosystem Gaps<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Magnesium casting is not easy. Companies already operating in this space have invested Crores into R&D, often guarding their knowledge closely, and understandably so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But in a remarkable moment, Bhagyanagar Magnesium publicly stated their willingness to share technical know-how to help the ecosystem grow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They understand that no industry scales in isolation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Challenge 3 \u2014 Environmental Concerns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Magnesium is lighter than Aluminium and promises efficiency gains. But today, its production process is environmentally intensive, and recycling of return scrap remains limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The conference openly addressed this, not as a weakness, but as a challenge that must be solved if magnesium is to become mainstream and scalable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One moment that captured global attention was the discussion on biodegradable magnesium heart stents<\/strong>, implants that dissolve naturally once healing is complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A powerful reminder that magnesium is not just an industrial metal, It\u2019s a material of the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Presiding over the entire magnesium conference was Dr Martin Tauber<\/strong>, global representative of the International Magnesium Association<\/strong>, who’s expressed strong interest in India\u2019s potential and future collaborations right from the start of Conference 1 back in February 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

All eyes now turn to the next magnesium conference, which will have big shoes to fill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. ALUMINIUM DIE-CASTING CONFERENCE<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Running alongside the magnesium discussions was a three day Aluminium die-casting conference, packed with insight and energy.

From simulation software to advanced fluxes, furnace technology, die-making breakthroughs, and fettling automation, the sessions were rich, practical, and deeply technical.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Foundrymen and suppliers alike walked away with actionable knowledge, not just theory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The valedictory session was graced by Mr. Vandan Shah<\/strong>, Chairman of Sipra Engineers Pvt. Ltd, reinforcing the industry\u2019s focus on scale, precision, and global competitiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.<\/strong> THE UNEXPECTED MOMENT : Mr SRINIVASAN RAVI<\/strong> – CRAFTSMAN AUTOMATION<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Day three brought an unexpected highlight. Amidst widespread IndiGo flight cancellations, Mr. Srinivasan Ravi of Craftsman Automation still made it to the event, and when he did, the room shifted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Mr Ravi was Interviewed live on stage, he spoke about India\u2019s real strength, its MSME’s and how India doesn\u2019t just need many small companies but instead needs MSMEs that become large companies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At Craftsman Automation, now at nearly \u20b95,500 crore in revenue, Ravi pushes relentlessly toward a billion-dollar vision, backed by global acquisitions, public listing success, and engineering-first thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His advice to Young Foundrymen was Simple, Powerful and still Echoes in my ears! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Spend more time on the shop floor, Learn to solve engineering problems, That is where future value lies!”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.<\/strong> WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS FORUM<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the most moving sessions came from the Women Entrepreneurs Forum, kicked off by Ms. Lila Poonawala’s presence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One might call her many things, A pioneer? A refugee? or India\u2019s First Woman Engineering graduate? An entrepreneur? in an era when factories were not built for women.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

During her talk, she recalled being hired as an engineer only to be asked to inspect the factory toilets a job she accepted the cheerfully Because she knew that entry mattered more than ego<\/em><\/strong>. Today, her journey, struggles, and eventual success became a lesson in resilience, humility, and long-term vision for women alike.

She urged more women to take up jobs in Engineering and less in IT, stating that IT might give you a good starting salary, but Engineering could give you a Career.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the Lila Poonawala Foundation, she enables scholarships for women engineers across rural India, ensuring the next generation rises faster than she had to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among other things, It was her closing remark that brought the room to laughter : <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, maybe it is men who need help<\/em><\/strong>! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

5.<\/strong> THE FIRST-EVER CEO MEET<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For the first time in GDC Tech\u2019s history, a closed door CEO Meet was organized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Addressed by Mr. Viren Joshi<\/strong>, Former CEO <\/strong>of Sigma Electric Manufacturing Corp<\/strong><\/mark>, the session moved beyond business into life, leadership, and decision-making under pressure. Entrepreneurs were left with clarity, not just about markets, but about the personal cost of leadership in today\u2019s volatile world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Session 2 of the evening was held by Miss Shama Patel, who gave a different kind of seminar, one that these Business tycoons perhaps needed more than ever.

Within minutes, Shama had the room standing up, eyes closed, and communicating with their inner selves, something they had perhaps last done decades ago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Going by the reception of this first of kind meeting, it will likely become a standard event at all GDC Tech Forums in the Future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. THE GDC TECH EXHIBITION<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Over 100 exhibitors, including foundries themselves, not just equipment suppliers found themselves a stall at the Exhibition happening concurrently during the Conference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For three days, the halls were packed. Conversations, Live Demonstrations, and Deals unfolding continuously rocked the Halls. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike many Expos dominated by Ferrous industries, GDC Tech remains one of India\u2019s few platforms dedicated solely to Aluminium die-casting, making it uniquely valuable for this niche.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many exhibitors reported strong leads, exposure, and meaningful conversations and will be back for more during the next Edition! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

CLOSING \u2014 THE BIGGER PICTURE<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

GDC Tech 2025 was not just a conference, but a signal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A signal that India\u2019s die casting industry, whether Aluminium or Magnesium, is maturing, collaborating, and thinking globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The future then, looks bright.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It needs to be said too that years from now, when India\u2019s Magnesium die-casting stories are written…

This conference will be remembered as one of the sparks that lit the fire<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
